This project in Brandon, Suffolk, involved the full transformation of a tired and cluttered rear garden into a modern, low maintenance space using porcelain paving and new timber decking. The existing layout was disjointed, combining worn timber boards with uneven block paving that made the space feel dark and outdated.

The garden had a mix of old, slippery timber decking and faded block paving, much of which had become unstable over time. The layout felt cramped, with little usable space and a lack of flow between areas.

After:

The new garden is clean, comtemporary and practical, featuring sleek grey porcelain slabs and spacious decking platforms, perfect for for outdoor entertaining or relaxing. The fresh design opened up the space, creating a more usable and attractive layout.

Process Overview

1. Site Clearance & Removal

We began by lifting the old timber decking and lifting out the tired block paving. All waste was removed from site and disposed of responsibly. The garden area was then fully cleared and levelled, ready for a fresh layout.

2. Foundation Preparation

The team excavated the base to the necessary depth and installed a solid MOT Type 1 sub-base across the patio areas. This was compacted thoroughly to ensure long-term durability and prevent any future movement.

3. Porcelain Paving Installation

A sharp sand screed bed was laid and levelled before installing high-quality grey porcelain slabs in a neat, modern layout. Porcelain was chosen for its contemporary look, durability, and ease of maintenance.

4. Decking Construction & Edging

New raised timber decking platforms were built at the far end of the garden, offering two distinct seating zones. We also installed clean gravel borders and planters to finish the look and soften the transition between materials.

This garden is now a highly functional, visually impressive space that will be enjoyed for years to come. The modern materials combined with smart layout changes have brought new life to the outdoor space.
