We recently completed this grey block paved driveway installation in Ipswich, transforming a dated front garden and tired paving into a clean, modern and highly practical driveway space.
The original layout featured older red block paving and a raised front garden area, which limited usable parking space and reduced the overall visual impact of the property. The homeowners wanted to maximise space, modernise the appearance and create a more functional driveway.
Our solution was a full redesign and installation using contemporary grey block paving with a contrasting charcoal border.
Site Clearance & Preparation
The first stage involved removing the existing driveway surface and clearing the raised garden area to open up the full width of the property.
All materials were removed from site, and the ground was excavated to the correct depth to allow for a new structural build-up. Careful excavation ensures the finished driveway sits at the proper level while maintaining drainage away from the property.
Sub-Base Construction
A strong MOT Type 1 sub-base was installed and compacted in layers to create a stable and long-lasting foundation.
This stage is critical for driveways that will support vehicle traffic daily. Proper compaction prevents future sinking, movement or uneven areas.
Installing the Block Paving
The main driveway area was laid using modern grey block paving, chosen to complement the property’s brickwork and surrounding homes in Ipswich.
A charcoal block border was installed around the perimeter to frame the driveway and add contrast. This detail gives the driveway definition and creates a premium, finished look.
The blocks were laid in a traditional herringbone pattern to maximise strength and durability, making the surface ideal for long-term vehicle use.
Finishing Process
Once the blocks were laid, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints and the entire driveway was compacted to lock everything firmly into place.
The result is a smooth, level and durable driveway with a crisp, modern finish.
